We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Seville. We decided to visit the city in October due to its reputation for extreme temperatures during the Summer months, yet the temperatures were still between 25 and 30 degrees C during the day.
Seville is a welcoming, vibrant city, steeped in culture and history. From the breathtaking Royal Alcazar historic royal palace to the awesome gothic style cathedral, the city is a must see for lovers of Spain and its language. When you are not being seriously impressed by these 2 exquisite examples of Spanish history, you can enjoy wandering around the streets of barrio Santa Cruz, the former Jewish quarter of Seville, or enjoy the vibrancy of barrio Triana with its mix of bars, restaurants, and flamenco clubs.
For those who want to mix the modern with the old there is the stunning modern structure of The Metropol Parasol, otherwise known to the locals as Las Setas (The Mushrooms). This vast structure spans La Plaza de la Encarnación, and is well worth the entrance fee to walk over the top of this wonder of modern engineering and creativity by architectural genius, Jürgen Mayer.
Why not visit La Plaza de España which was built for the Ibero - American Exposition of 1929, and take a romantic rowing boat ride on its lake. Although built less than a century ago, it appears as though it has been part of Seville for centuries.
Another tick in the box of places to visit is the magnificent Museo de Bella Artes de Sevilla. You won’t be disappointed.
Finally, although it seems as though I have mentioned many places to visit, I have barely scratched the surface. With its many parks, and landmarks, such as The Golden Tower, the bullring, its river cruises, its easy access to places such as Cádiz and the hinterland around Seville, you could do a lot worse than choosing Seville for a holiday or as a short break destination.
